Help Taslima Nasrin, women's rights activist and a victim of religious fundamentalism
Taslima Nasrin (India) is a physician, a writer, a radical feminist, human rights activist and a secular humanist. She was born in Bangladesh in 1962 and has been harassed and threatened by Islamic fundamentalists since the early 90’s. In 1997, they passed death (fatwa) sentence against her because of her writing which condemned Islam’s (and other religions) treatment of women. She was exiled from Bangladesh, lived in Europe and Western Bengalia until November 2007 when she was forced to run from Calcutta and move into a hidden location in India where is waiting for approval of her Indian citizenship. Jasmina Jerant will present Taslima’s situation, the interview she made with the writer and speak about what we can do to help her.
